Arguably the greatest living keeper of the bebop flame, alto saxophonist Richie Cole returns to Madison for a rare club date in this season kickoff program for Madison Music Collective’s “Jazz on a Sunday” series hosted by Chris Wagoner and Mary Gaines of Mad Toast Live.  Richie will be joined by a rhythm section led by our celebrated local pianist Dave Stoler.  Following the concert, bassist Laurie Lang will lead a free interactive workshop that includes a brief interview and audience talk-back with Richie and a segment in which musicians from the audience (professional and amateur) join him onstage to make music together.

Photos of Grenada: A show and viewing

Friends, supporters of photography, photography novices (like yours truly), there will be a show at the Middleton Art and Framing beginning in March. If you've never been there, oh, great art work and fantastic frames. Go visit Marty, Ady and Erin at 6771 University Ave., Middleton. Call 203-6196 if you have questions about art and/or framing. Below are a few of the photos to be on display at my first major public show (the photos, though, are currently on display at Memorial High School's Dahmer Art Space). Theme: Grenada!

First photo: Courtyard (c)2012
Second: Sisters braiding hair (c)2012
Third: Flaming Paradise (c)2012

These are currently for sale. I'm hoping to have a more formal photo website up and going soon. For now, this is where you find this. If you want to purchase, email me and we can begin discussions. Support a novice photographer. A new future for me. It's bold, strong in subject, minimalist in composition, naturally emotive.

Politics, Thoughts and Arts

This is a new blog, designed to discuss and share topics from politics to your thoughts on important issues of the day and share your observations and experiences in and about the many art forms, in particular jazz, painting, photography, writing and sculpturing. Other art forms are just as much welcome; these just happen to be my major artistic expressions that I do or enjoy the work of those close to me who do some of these artistic expressions. Flaming is not a part of this blog but good discussion and debating is welcome. And, when you voice an opinion, try to have something to back up what you say. Shooting from the hip is easy. Attributing your opinions is a challenge and is intellectually welcomed.
